Euro 2016
On 8 June 2023 the regulator betting industry’s integrity body ESSA and French gambling regulatory authority ARJEL have recently signed an integrity agreement, to cooperate during the Euro 2023 championship.

According to the agreement, both ESSA and ARJEL will exchange information on suspicious betting with each other, in order prevent any illegal activities during Euro 2023. The protocol signed by the authorities, regards a variety of sports and competitions as well as presents both parties’ ongoing commitment to sports, customers and regulated betting markets protecting from the possibility of match fixing.

Mike O’Kane, Chairman of ESSA, said: “We are delighted to be working with ARJEL; this agreement represents an important milestone in establishing a network of international information sharing agreements between regulators and responsible regulated betting operators”.

O’Kane has also added that: “One of our key objectives has been to establish cross-sector partnerships as the most effective means of tackling betting related corruption in sport”.

Charles Coppolani, Chairman of ARJEL, stated: “The exchange of information and international cooperation with betting companies is a key part of the Council of Europe Convention to protect sport and tackle corruption. This agreement strengthens our betting integrity framework ahead of one of the biggest sporting events in the world, taking place on French soil. Sports betting integrity is paramount and ARJEL is committed to protecting that ethos and to working with responsible stakeholders such as ESSA”.

About ESSA and ARJEL
ESSA is the company that represents a variety of the world’s biggest regulated sports betting operators and it is serving more than 40 million customers in the EU alone. ESSA was established in 2005 by a group of concerned regulated bookmakers, in order to monitor betting and prevent cheating, by informing sports and regulators of any suspicious betting.
ARJEL, The French Autorité de régulation des jeux en ligne, is an authority, which is specially designed to regulated betting market in France. The regulatory body was created in 2010 when the Article 34 of Law No 2010-476 (The French Gambling Act) was introduced.
