John Payne, Pennsylvania State Representative announced a new online gaming bill in the US state. The new bill is an effort to help boost Pennsylvania's casino industry.
The bill follows a searines of hearings which were scheduled by the state in order to explore the possibilities of exanding gambling and examining regulations.
Even though online gambling has been legalised only by New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware, online gambling bills have been issued in number of other states. Their aim was to regulate online gambling on a wider scale.
Philadelphia's bill follows the ones introduced in California, Mississippi and Washington.
“We looked at the fact that Jersey has it, Delaware has it, Las Vegas has it,” commented Payne.
“It would be a mistake for Pennsylvania to sit here and wait until Ohio has it, Maryland has it, New York has it, and we're the last ones coming to the game.
“We've got to be up and running and be able to compete with the surrounding states.”
Online gaming bill was issued to legalise online gaming in Philadelphia and it has attracted a number of sponsors active in the state including Nick Kotik, the Democratic chairman of the committee.
The introduction of the bill has also attracted other figures in the state of gaming industry, such as the general manager of Harrah's Philadelphia Casino, Ron Bauman.
“We believe that it could certainly enhance the overall revenues.” said Bauman.
Bob Green, chairman of the company that owns Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, stated that if the state were to legalise online gaming, it should be done carefully and properly.
“If it's to be done, it has to be done right. The first priority must be to protect the bricks-and-mortar casino industry,” said Green.
“Online gaming would have to be integrated into the existing casino industry and be an extended service within the Pennsylvania customer base."
