“Big Kahuna” is like a time machine – enter and it will take you back to times, when people were living next to monkeys, they were wearing some leaves instead of underwear and as jewelery they wore necklaces with their gods’ face. About these times you will not hear even form your great-grandmother, so we might say that this Microgaming game has also some educational aspect.
This game is a 5 reel slot with 9 paylines. The symbols that appear on the reels present what people in those times were dealing with – volcano, lizard, totem, shaman, monkey, and some exotic fruits.
Most symbols pay if at least three of them appear on the active payline, with the exception of shaman and lizard, that pay when you trigger at least two of them. The Wild symbol in “Big Kahuna” is the Big Kahuna Wild, however it substitutes only for fruit symbols.
No game can do without the Scatter symbol, which here is the Monkey. All winnings obtained with this symbol are multiplied by the number of credits staked and will be added to the payline wins.
In “Big Kahuna” there are two bonuses to play – Volcano and Mask bonus. The first one is triggered when 3, 4, or 5 volcano symbols appear on any active payline. Then you find yourself next to the seashore in the full moon and Shaman has 5 fruit masks – pick one and get up to 2,500 coins.
The second, Mask Bonus, is triggered 3, 4, or 5 mask symbols appear on an active payline. If you are lucky enough to get it, you will pass further into the forest where you will find 10 different masks. There is money hidden behind some of them, and until you pick the mask which hides the inscription ‘collect’ behind it, the sums will be added to your winnings.
Maximum jackpot in this game is not very appealing - $4,000, but the entertainment makes up for it.
As for the graphics, it is a little bit cartoonish, but seems to fit the game convention. The sound you can hear in the background is not very disturbing, but you can still hear some drums when the reels are spinning.
All in all, “Big Kahuna” is a very entertaining game. It revolves around theme not so often moved about in games. Moreover, Bonus games are relatively funny and can get you some nice money. The only thing worth complaining about is the little jackpot amount.
