The game designer International Game Technology (IGT) developed its game portfolio after signing deals with several third-party developers.

International Game Technology (IGT) confirmed they will shut down the Entraction poker network which was bought for around $115 million only last year.

The company, which has been retreating from ‘gray area’ markets such as Israel, Canada and Russia, has seen liquidity at Entraction plunge and as a result it has decided to close the network, a move that is widely expected in December.

An IGT spokesperson said, “As part of our regular business process, we have been evaluating our resources, products and markets from a commercial and compliance perspective. As a result, we are consolidating our product development, allowing us to combine a number of locations and focus on the most attractive opportunities.”

International Gaming Technologies (IGT) has advised its online poker operator customers who use IGT Poker (formerly Entraction) network that the company has decided to drastically reduce internet poker operations due to poor trading figures for the network.

There have been reports in Sweden indicating that the company has closed its offices in Stockholm and terminated the contracts of employees. According to industry observers, the network could be closed down by the end of 2012.

The situation is getting very confused as some of the operators on the network say they have been told to leave by the end of December, but then others said they had not.

IGT has not made a public statement on the future of Entraction. The company purchased Entraction only a year ago for $108.2 million.

Operators on the network include BetVictor, Devilfish Poker, 24h Poker, Kick Off Poker, Redbet, Betsson & No IQ.

There was great excitement that IGT would be among the first to enter the Nevada regulated online poker market. Although the company has already been successful in acquiring Nevada license, it seems that Entraction will have no role in this intrastate initiative.

According to weekly stats from the independent online poker monitor Pokerscout, the since changing ownership Entraction has not done well. The network lost much of its traffic and is now characterised as one of the weak performers.

There appears to have been minimal development by IGT, in regard to Entraction since the pruchase, because the company wants to keep its corporate focus on regulated online markets, hence restricting Entractions capability to expand.
