Sic Bo History

 

Sic Bo is also known as tai sai, dai siu, big and small or hi-lo, the game name varying from country to country. Sic Bo is a Chinese game of chance played with three dice which is very popular in Asia. The Chinese immigrants brought it to the United States in 20th century. It may not be a profitable game, but it provides a lot of fun. Nowadays, in addition to several of the North American Casinos, the game is available online.

 

 

Sic Bo Rules

 

 Sic Bo is an ancient Chinese game which consists of three dice and a table. To start the game, the player has to place the chip he wants to bet on the table in the special area. There are 8 different ways the player can bet (payout is given using the table in the image above):

 

1) Three of a Kind – betting on one number that has to appear on all three dice. As there are 216 (6 x 6 x 6) dice combinations and only one can give you a three of a kind, the chances to win with this bet are really slim, but the pay is usually really big (in this case payout is 180 to 1).

 

 

 2) Two of a Kind – betting on one number that has to appear on two out of the three dice. There are 12 ways to make this combination and the chance to win is 5.82%.

 

 

3) Any Three of a Kind – betting than any number from 1 to 6 will appear on all thee dice. The probability is around 2.78% and the payout is 30 to 1.

 

 

4) Small – betting that the sum of the three dice will be equal to 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 (this excludes Three of a Kind). The payout is 1 to 1.

 

 

 5) Big - exactly the same as Small, but the sum has to be equal to 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

 

 

6) Sum of three - betting on a specific sum of the three dice (from 4 to 17). The payout presents as follows:

 

 

7) Duo - betting on two different numbers that have to appear on at least two dice. The payout is 6 to 1 and the possible combinations are:

 

 

 8) One of a Kind - betting on a single number that has to appear on one, two or three dice. If it appears on one the payout is 1 to 1, on two 2 to 1 and on three 3 to 1:

  

 

Sic Bo Strategy

 

Sic Bo is a game with no successful strategy. Player must only predict the final outcome of rolling the dice which is completely random and out of player’s control. The Small and Big Bets are the least risky for the players. With a Single Number Bet the player is able to gain the higher payout, however the possibility of winning is much lower. The specific Triple has the highest payout of all, but players have to remember that it is highly unlikely to get the same three numbers.

 

Sic Bo Glossary

  

Tai Sai or Dai Siu – the literal translation of Tai Sai or Dai Siu is Big Small. Sic Bo is the usual name for the game Tai Sai or Dai Siu. The game has three dice that are shaken in a cup or basket.

 

Spin - the action of the dice being shaken in the basket or cup. Player cannot spin unless they've placed a wager on the Sic Bo table.

 

Re-Bet - in this case players would be placing the same wager value on the same betting area of the table for the next round as they did on the previous round.

 

Clear - this procedure cancels all bets previously placed.

 

Chips - chips are used to make bets. The chips are of different values depending on what the player wants to play. If the player plays this game online he should just click the denomination and bet.

 

Layout - this is the actual grid of the table. It shows the different bets that players are allowed to make.
