"Evangelion" is an anime video slot created exclusively for 888casino by 888 Holdings’ proprietary software brand Dragonfish (previously Random Logic). The game is based on a Japanese science-fantasy animation film series, more specifically its latest iteration, Rebuild of Evangelion, a reboot of the original TV series that aired from 1995 to 1996. Taking place in a post-apocalyptical world, it tells a story of a group of teenagers who pilot giant bio-machines called Evangelions to stop monstrous enemies (‘Angels’) from causing another catastrophe and the extinction of the human race.
"Evangelion" is a game with 5 reels, 4 rows and employs the All Pays feature that pays wins in any position from left to right on adjacent reels, giving players an amazing number of 1224 ways to win. The symbols in the game include card ranks A, K, Q, J and 10 as well as characters and enemies from the series: symbol with the blue border is an Angel, purple border is the protagonist Shinji Ikari, orange border is Rei Ayanami, red border is Asuka Langley Shikinami and green border is Mari Illustrious Makinami. There’s also the enigmatic Gendo Ikari, Wild symbol with logo of NERV and Pen-Pen the penguin. The game doesn’t have amazing graphics, but some of the symbols play simple animations when they are a part of a winning combination and the whole style of reels should feel familiar to fans of the series.
The special features in the game include a Scatter that activates Free Spins, a Wild and a Special Win.
Gendo Ikari acts as a scatter. 3, 4 or 5 such symbols anywhere on the reel will activate the Combat Free Spins. During Free Spins each of the young pilots boards his giant robot and appears on ‘stacked icons’ (an icon that covers two rows), increasing chances for great wins.
The Wild symbol is a logo of NERV, the organization that fights with Angels. It substitutes any symbol except the scatter, but does not pay any wins by itself.
The Special Win is activated each time the penguin symbol appears on the reel. It’s a random prize that is awarded after a short animation. This symbol appears only on reel 3.
"Evangelion" is a game that will appeal mainly to the fans of giant robots, Japanese animation and the TV/film series. Others may have more problems getting into the theme, but special features and possible rewards may win them over.
